I live and work in Kent in south-east England with my family and two tortoises. My professional life has always had two strands to it – the commercial and the creative – and I’m always at my happiest when the two intersect.

My career began in marketing where I worked in branding, advertising and campaign management. These are areas where writing, editing and a keen eye for detail are essential for the many pieces of marketing communication I was responsible for producing.

I became a freelance copywriter and editor in 2007, and I have since worked on a variety of projects, B2B and consumer, for large multi-national consultant firms down to SMEs and micro-businesses.

Meanwhile I have immersed myself in the world of fiction. I keep a reading journal to note down useful learnings, I attend courses on writing, plotting and publishing, I gained an MA in Professional Writing and have a wonderful network of writing friends. I’d advise anyone with the writing itch to build a writers’ network: the more people you have by your side the better.

I’ve had two women’s historical fiction novels published under the pen name Allie Burns with HarperCollins imprint HQDigital. The most recent, The Land Girl, was published in 2018.

Currently, I’m working on a contemporary women’s fiction novel, under a new pen name.
