Hi, I’m Alison and I work with independent fiction and creative non-fiction authors to prepare their manuscripts for publication.
As a fiction author myself, I understand the importance of those finishing touches and how we all need a fresh pair of eyes to ensure nothing is overlooked. To that end, I provide collaborative editorial support that respects an author’s personal style and choices.
In addition to my two published historical novels, I’ve immersed myself in the world of fiction and publishing for the last couple of decades. I regularly attend writing and publishing training events and have an MA in Professional Writing from Falmouth University. To train as an editor, I’ve undertaken courses with both the Society of Editors and Proofreaders and the Publishing Training Centre.
The combination of being a writer and editor allows me to address the finer details alongside the more technical aspects of the writing craft, such as voice and characterisation.
I can help with writing blurbs, synopses and the all-important agent cover letter.
I’m particularly interested in women’s contemporary and historical fiction, my favourite authors include Anne Tyler for her amazing characterisation, and Lionel Shriver for tackling uncomfortable subjects and possessing such a rich lexicon. I’ve most frequently bought Small Island by Andrea Levy as a gift, which I think must make it my favourite novel – although it’s so hard to pick just one.
Writing, and editing, for business
As I have come from a marketing background, and still work as a freelance copywriter, I also offer services to businesses and organisations. I can write and edit marketing materials such as digital content, blog posts and newsletters.
If you’d like to discuss your editing or copywriting needs further, please email me and I’d be happy to hear from you.
